Because we live in a world where it is easy to get distracted (social media, skiing, the allure of a delicious latte with pastry at the nearby cafe… or is that just me?) this section of my website will hold me accountable for honing my craft.
First off: The Reading Challenge. I have been a fan of Gabriela Pereira’s DIY MFY podcast for awhile. This year, I’ve decided to become active in her community. Her Reading Challenge sounded like the perfect entree (Ah duh? Who wouldn’t want an excuse to choose an awesome new book to delve into!) I liked Pereira’s idea of creating a special space for reading responses. For me, that will be my brand new website.
I’m actually 3/4 of the way through two different books right now (I almost always have a fiction and nonfiction book going at any point in time), but I shall rise to the challenge and start a third.
I absolutely LOVE Liane Moriarty’s writing. The first book of hers that I read was The Husband’s Secret. I found it on a lending library shelf on Great Kepple Island just off the coast of Australia. I read several other Moriarty books, including Big Little Lies. (I can’t decide if I like it better as an Australian-set novel or American-set series.) I love how her multiple viewpoints are not always clear from the beginning, it helps pique my interest as a reader and creates suspense. I weened myself away from her books because I didn’t want to run out. However, Nine Perfect Strangers will be perfect for my challenge read as it is both a ‘Comp’ (I yearn for Moriarty’s skill at teasing along the reader!) and a ‘Contemporary’ book.
